The Kids Art Project focuses on children who are undergoing inpatient treatment and recuperation at hospitals.
Hospital-based
Kids Art Project
Nonprofit Organization (NPO)
since January 22, 2013
The Kids Art Project is about "children in hospitals" being the main characters.
Children always love to have fun, wherever they are, even in the hospital! Through creating art, they can enjoy their stay at the hospital, bond with each other, face their treatments, and bring cheer to their families.
This project is about these children being the main characters, with the hospital as the stage. Art is drawn in the hospital and broadcasted from the hospital.
We hope to spread Art from hospital to hospital, to everyone's town, and to all over the world.
We aim to support the project so that hospitals become a place where children feel comfortable and have fun while they receive their treatments by providing various art activities, improving the medical environment and enhancing treatment compliance.
Kids Art Project
Background
Medical care is provided for all kinds of diseases all over the world. However, it is also true that there are many patients who are forced to be hospitalized for a long time and must continue to face the disease for the rest of their lives. In addition, from the perspective of preventing infectious diseases, visitation is often restricted in the pediatric ward during hospitalization, and even siblings and grandparents cannot visit.
Children have to endure feelings of alienation and alienation. They believe that hospitals are places where the sick are treated and that people were entitled to endure painful treatments. If you recover and leave the hospital for a short period of time, you may be able to endure the painful treatment.
In pediatric medicine, environmental improvement and mental support are considered extremely important to improve treatment compliance (treatment acceptance). In some pediatric wards in Europe and the United States, colorful and fun pictures are drawn on the walls and desks, and various events are held in the hospital. Building a better treatment environment is just as important as treatment.
That's why we started this project. We want to bring happiness to children through art, improve healthcare environments, and help increase treatment compliance.

The Power of Art
Art Therapy
Karen Sue Pence became the second lady of the United States on January 20, 2017, succeeding Jill Biden. She hired Kristan King Nevins as her chief of staff; Nevins had served in the same position under former First Lady Barbara Bush. As second lady, Pence worked to raise awareness of art therapy, to which she was first exposed when visiting a Washington hospital during her husband's tenure as a congressman. In October 2017, she visited the campus of Florida State University to highlight the university's art therapy program, which dates back to the 1990s.

Yubi Yazaki
Creative painter/Hyogu craftsman
She has been fond of drawing and making things since she was a child, and enjoyed drawing and handicrafts as her hobbies. When she was a junior college student, she went to an oil painting atelier. She knocked on the door of the ink painting class. Her ink painting class teacher was Yodo Obuchi, the creator of creative paintings and a mounting artist, who would later help her learn. When she saw her teacher bring back her work that she drew in her ink painting class, backing it up so that it could be easily framed, and handing it over, she became interested in backing. There, she was shown the actual process of lining in her teacher's atelier, and was told that "this is the foundation of the work of a mounting artist." It was there that she first heard the term ``mounting craftsman,'' but she learned that it was the work (mounting) of making hanging scrolls and folding screens through this lining process. She wanted to master this technique and so apprenticed to her master as a 'Hyogu-shi' on the spot. As a disciple, she began attending her teacher's studio and began learning the sogeiga, which her teacher devised in order to express craftsman ship of the mountedas art.
The Japanese lifestyle has changed, and the number of homes with alcoves decorated with hanging scrolls is steadily decreasing. Along with this, the need for "mounting craftsmen" is decreasing, and "Sogeiga" also has the role of preserving this traditional technique as "art".
It also has the meaning of reaffirming the merits and traditions of mounting, with the “creative paintings” as a gateway.

Princess Kaguya
There are so many old tales around the world and so do in Japan. One the most well known is the tale of Princess Kaguaya that is written around Heian Period 9th-10th century. And in 2013 Studio Ghibili, an animation studio well known for several masterpieces, created a film of this tale "The Tale of The Princess Kaguya". The film, directed by Takahata Isao is nominated as an 87th Animation Award for Best Animated Feature. With this film, the very well known tale was suddenly reformed into dramatic story, and it made me feel burst into several emotions.
